Something is Missing at Today’s C&M Meeting

Two procedure proposals will not be discussed during the two-day C&M meeting that kicks off today, continuing tomorrow at CMS headquarters in Baltimore.

Something will be missing today when the ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee meeting gets underway at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) headquarters. The two-day meeting will include proposals for new procedure codes today and proposals for diagnosis codes on Wednesday.

Talk Ten Tuesday will monitor the today’s meeting and additional articles will be forthcoming in the ensuring weeks. The meeting will begin today with a review of the inpatient procedure proposals. The meeting will start at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the lunch break which is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The afternoon session continues until 5:00. All times are based on the Eastern time zone.

Currently, the procedure tentative agenda contains five topics plus the Section X updates and addendum. The five topics include the following:

  1. Implantation of Extraluminal Support Device During Arteriovenous Fistula Creation
  2. Implantation of Ultrasound Penetrable Cranioplasty Plate*
  3. Insertion of Transcatheter Bicaval Valve System*
  4. Implantation of Bioprosthetic Femoral Venous Valve
  5. Intubated Prone Positioning

There are two proposals that will not be presented but are still under consideration. CMS has requested comments on these proposals. The New Technology Add-On Payment (NTAP) will be requested for fiscal year 2024 and are identified with the asterisk.

Diagnosis Agenda

The diagnosis code proposals will follow the procedure proposals and may begin on Tuesday. There are thirty-seven proposals in the diagnosis packet, plus the addendum. The topics include the following:

  1. Alagille Syndrome
  2. Childhood and Adult Obesity
  3. Coronary Microvascular Disease
  4. Foreign Body Entering into or through a Natural Orifice
  5. Sickle Cell Retinopathy
  6. Short Bowel Syndrome and Intestinal Failure
  7. Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)
