Answer:

These mutually exclusive procedures cannot be reported on the same date of service unless the clinical circumstance justifies the use of a modifier. They represent:

• Procedures that cannot occur during the same operative session due to medical impossibility or improbability;
• Performance of two different methods to accomplish the same therapeutic result when only one was successful; or
• Initial and a subsequent service on the same date.
