Question:

What is the correct code to report for a PET/MRI fusion?

Answer:

There is no code for the fusion of PET images and MRI images. When both PET and MRI are separately ordered and performed, it may be appropriate to code for the PET, MRI and the concurrently or non-concurrently fused anatomic localization studies with code 78999 (unlisted miscellaneous procedure, diagnostic nuclear medicine) in addition to the CPT codes that describe the PET and MRI exams performed.
