Will Medicare cover IVIG provided in a Medicare beneficiary’s home?
Answer:
The Medicare Modernization Action of 2003 created a benefit for the provision of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) for beneficiaries with a diagnosis of primary immune deficiency disease. Coverage is provided if a physician determines that the administration of IVIG in the patient’s home is medically appropriate. Payment is limited to that for the IVIG itself and does not cover items and services related to administration of the product.
