Laboratory Question for the Week of May 14, 2018

Question:

Last week’s question related to Medicare separate payment for specimen-collection codes. You said that Medicare does make separate payment for 36415, P9612 and P9615. Does this apply to the OPPS or the CLFS?

Answer:

The separate payment for the codes you list applies to the Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS). This information can be found in Transmittal 3999 (issued March 14, 2018), which is available at https://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Guidance/Transmittals/2018-Transmittals-Items/R3999CP.html.
