Question:

Did the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently eliminate a modifier used for laboratory tests?

Answer:

As revealed in Transmittal 4227 (Change Request 11061) ends the requirement for independent laboratories to use the consolidated billing (CB) modifier to bill separately for renal dialysis laboratory tests. This policy takes effect on July 1, 2019.
