Hospitals are facing increasing challenges with observation metrics due to inconsistencies in calculation methods, payer-driven classification differences, and benchmarking difficulties. Variations in payer policies, coding practices, and hospital procedures create significant discrepancies in how observation stays are categorized, making reliable comparisons nearly impossible. Differences in inpatient-only procedure rates, the number of bedded outpatients, and case mix further distort data, weakening the relevance of traditional observation metrics. Without a standardized approach, hospitals struggle to measure performance accurately, align with hospital expectations, and make informed operational decisions, underscoring the need for a shift toward outcome-based performance measures.
Join industry experts Tiffany Ferguson, LMSW, CMAC, ACM, and Anuja Mohla, DO, FACP, MBA, ACPA-C, CHCQM-PHYADV as they provide strategies for hospitals to refine their observation metrics. This webcast will present standardized metric definitions and best practices for classifying bedded outpatients, ensuring consistency in data reporting. You will learn how to identify inconsistencies, apply clear inclusion and exclusion criteria, and implement process improvements to enhance benchmarking accuracy.
