Sepsis is one of the most common discharge MS-DRG diagnoses in the U.S. and accounts for one in three inpatient deaths. It is a high-volume, high-value condition. Triggering denials forces facilities to expend significant resources to appeal, and it is one of (if not the most) common conditions resulting in a clinical validation denial. Despite that, there are still many providers, clinical documentation integrity specialists (CDISs), coders, and facilities that don’t understand what constitutes sepsis and how to document and code it.
That’s why ICD10monitor has teamed up with renowned CDI expert Erica E. Remer, MD, CCDS, ACPA-C to bring you an exclusive webcast on how to recognize sepsis, how to get providers to give documentation that will support sepsis, and how to educate to avert sepsis denials. By attending this webcast, you will not only understand the concept of sepsis and be able to recognize appropriate clinical indicators, but you’ll also become a crucial piece of the solution to standardizing sepsis clinical practice, documentation, and coding at your facility.
Sepsis is one of the most common discharge MS-DRG diagnoses and accounts for one in three inpatient deaths. It costs Medicare over 6 billion dollars annually. Appealing denials is a resource-consuming activity and there are quality metrics that are impacted by sepsis. Coders and CDISs must ensure that the diagnosis is picked up when the condition is present and get clarification if the diagnosis is not supported by clinical indicators.
