Achieving effective collaboration between CDI, coding, and quality departments is essential for improving both patient outcomes and financial performance, yet it remains challenging due to differing departmental priorities. CDI and coding professionals are primarily focused on ensuring accurate documentation to support reimbursement, while quality teams emphasize patient safety and regulatory compliance. This division in goals often leads to fragmented efforts and concerns about how best to balance objectives, integrate data systems, and gain organizational buy-in for a unified approach. Limited staffing, tight budgets, and the absence of shared platforms for real-time data further complicate these efforts, leaving departments to work in isolation with inconsistent metrics and communication practices.
Join renowned expert Angela Comfort, DBA, MBA, RHIA, CDIP, CCS, CCS-P, as she addresses these challenges and provides actionable strategies to align CDI, coding, and quality departments more effectively. Angela will share insights into creating cross-departmental communication strategies, establishing shared KPIs, and leveraging technology to enable seamless data sharing and collaboration. Her guidance will help participants implement structured initiatives that engage leadership, align objectives, and foster a culture of collaboration. Attendees will leave with practical tools to bridge the gap between CDI, coding, and quality priorities, enabling them to support accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and quality outcomes simultaneously. This session offers essential strategies for breaking down silos and achieving cohesive teamwork that advances the organization’s goals and enhances patient care quality.
As accurate clinical documentation is critical for coding quality, reimbursement, and compliance, this topic is particularly relevant to CDI and coding professionals. Coders depend on precise documentation to assign correct codes, directly impacting quality scores and financial performance. Improved collaboration helps coders recognize the broader impact of their work and identify documentation gaps that enhance both care quality and regulatory compliance.
