The coding professional is responsible for maintaining their skills and ensuring that compliant coding is practiced in order to ensure the organization’s revenue and data integrity.

Kay Piper has a passion for helping others improve their coding knowledge and skills. Kay is a Hospital Coding Educator for SSM Health, based in St. Louis, Missouri. She educates inpatient coders working in 24 hospitals across four states. Kay is committed to others through volunteerism. She co-chairs the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS) Regulatory Committee. She authored coding articles for ACDIS CDI Journal and has created and presented educational materials for American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She was Coding Roundtable Coordinator for Missouri Health Information Management Association for 10 years. She frequently speaks on coding and clinical documentation integrity at for Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) associations. Piper also had the honor of serving on American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Coding Clinic’s Editorial Advisory Board.
