A new code, recently announced by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is effective now and according to some it’s expected to keep auditors busy in their review of medical record claims. It’s Condition Code 92.
The code outlines the billing requirement for intensive outpatient program services for hospital outpatient departments, critical access hospitals (CAHs), and community mental health centers (CMHCs).
In addition to the new code, CMS has also provided new information on how providers are to submit medical documentation. It’s part of the agency’s
electronic submission of medical documentation (esMD).
Finally, among other newsworthy items from CMS is a proposal to the appeal process so that Medicare beneficiaries could change their status from inpatient to outpatient.
Rose Dunn, former president of the American Association of Health Information Management (AHIMA), is expected to report on these new initiatives from CMS today during Talk Ten Tuesdays with Chuck Buck and Dr. Erica Remer. Dunn, a long-standing panelist on the live Internet radio broadcast, is the current chief operating officer for First Class Solutions.
