Question:
Do you have any tips on how to bill complex drugs for chemotherapy administration?
Answer:
Both the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) instruct providers to assign codes from the chemotherapy section for the administration of certain highly complex drugs and biologics—even when the therapy is provided for a non-cancer diagnosis. With some exceptions, drugs billed as chemotherapy administration will be associated primarily with a code found in the J9xxx series of HCPCS codes.
