Question:

What are some of the key MPFS reimbursement policies in 2024 that are pertinent to cardiology?

Answer:

Some of the polices contained in the PFS final rule that impact cardiology consist of the following:

  • Teaching physicians to use audio-visual real-time communications technology
  • In-home vaccination payment
  • (COVID-19, pneumococcal, influenza, and hepatitis B)
  • Coverage of dental services linked to other covered services
  • Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) for Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Program
  • Continuation of allowance for teaching physicians to use audio-visual real-time communications technology to be present with residents
  • Continuation of additional payment for in-home COVID-19 vaccination, extension of benefit to pneumococcal, influenza, and hepatitis B.
  • Coverage of dental services in the inpatient and outpatient setting when the exams are inextricably linked to other covered services, like organ transplants, cardiac valve replacements, and valuloplasty procedures.
  • Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) for Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Program: Program implementation is paused, no date for resumption.
