Hospitals are required by Medicare Conditions of Participation to have a Utilization Review (UR) committee. But having a committee that meets the requirements and having a committee that is effective can be very different. And an ineffective UR committee can lead to increased LOS, medical necessity denials, and patterns of medically unnecessary care that can catch the attention of the Department of Justice. Fortunately, this webcast, led by Dr. Ronald Hirsch, will reveal what it takes to optimize your UR committee. He’ll explain, as only he can, requirements for, and the optimal composition of, the UR committee. The common and important data used by the committee will be presented along with key analyses. The role of the committee with status changes during and after a hospital stay will be reviewed along with the varying requirements of the different payers. You’ll take away key knowledge to implement immediately to improve how the UR committee at your hospital works.
Many well-intentioned committee members may be unfamiliar with important regulations and payor requirements. Errors and misunderstandings can lead to denials, audits and unhappy patients.
